Hour Two

Posted in Uncategorized on January 15, 2008 by newscoma

The tables are full and the feed is about to begin. Unfortunately, both Holly and I have been immortalized on camera, but if the radio mic comes near us, we’re bailing.

Holly is hungry so I fed her a t-shirt. After all, after fooling with the kiddies all day and filling their minds with “Beowulf,” she needs her tummy filled with fiber…even if it is cotton fiber.

NC is now at the mic and I just took someone’s number. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a guy’s number, but it was a number nonetheless.

NC just declared herself “Vanna White” and the auction will begin in 33 minutes.

Ciao for now!

Liveblogging the Stewman, the remix

Posted in Uncategorized on January 15, 2008 by newscoma

Scout and I are trying to figure out this liveblogging deal–my first post just got deleted.  Not that it matters, as nothing much was happening when I wrote it.  Oh, but that’s certainly not the case now!  People are bustling all over the place, and every single one of them is smiling.  As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve never met the Stewman, but what a spirit he must have to inspire such obvious love and humor, even under such circumstances and even in his absence.

P.S.  ‘Coma has a sexy emcee voice.  You should come hear it.

Come and get your red hot t-shirts

Posted in Uncategorized on January 14, 2008 by newscoma

R-E-D, H-O-T, Red hot, red hot red hot!!!

T-shirts are selling like hot cakes right now and the crowd is really beginning to pour in. Holly and I were just greeted by the Weakley County mayor and a few other dignitaries and the door is beginning to swing off the hinges with people coming in right and left.

The Opera House has never looked better. With Newscoma at the mic and the wall loaded to the gills with different auction items, this night will definitely be a night to remember.

Right now, Holly and I are talking about New Orleans amidst the t-shirt buyers and looking forward to the karaoke that is soon to come.

Newscoma must sing “Copacabana”. It simply must happen.

More later.

Reporting the news as soon as it becomes news.

Checking In As We Get Things Ready

Posted in Auction on January 14, 2008 by newscoma

Man, this looks like a real auction, ’cause it is.

People are running around and there is a lot of excitement.

This morning, we received about 25 extra auction items including a signed CD from  Van Zant, couple of country hams (because that’s how we swing in the country), a Tennessee Titans light up Budweiser sign (for your party den) and other stuff.

I’ll have a list up a bit later of everything. Grabbing a bite to eat and headed back to the Opera House.

Thanks to everyone for your support. We all appreciate it.

Back with more pictures soon.

Olivia’s Opera House

Whoa. Lots of activity going on.

Thanks to all the folks who have walked in off the street and given us some cash donations. It’s more than appreciated.

The benefit is being held at Olivia’s Opera House, 214 S. Lindell St. in Martin, which is a wonderful building in the heart of Martin and has been featured on Tennessee Crossroads back several years ago when it wasn’t in the greatest shape.

Olivia is from the area, relocated to Nashville for a spell and recently came back and opened the restaurant, which is smashing. The building has been completely remodeled and Olivia offered it up for us at the benefit.

The Friends of the Stewman want to thank her for her kindness and support.
If you are in the area, the event should be fun. A Cash Bar, specialty appetizers, an auction and friends coming out to honor our friend, Stew.

Locally, we have brought in some money and new auction items, which I think you guys will like. We will be selling those locally, but if you see something you like, shoot me off an email and I’ll place a bid for you.

Be sure if you want a tee to send me an email with the size you need at newscoma at gmail.com.

And, this is what they look like, as modeled by the beautiful Mandy.

Never Doubt …

Posted in Stew with tags on January 14, 2008 by newscoma

Today, we say this:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead

And never doubt the power of love and friendship. Today is Stew Byars day for all that he’s done for us, we are trying to give back to him.

Today Is The Big Day

The Friends of the Stewman event is this evening. If you can’t make the event, that’s groovy too but if you want to, leave a special message to Stew on this thread. We will be live-blogging the day right here. Words mean as much as money.

If, indeed you do want to make a cash donation, follow the directions here.

If you have any questions, send it to newscoma at gmail dot com.

We will try to keep it fresh all day and we wish to thank you for your help, your thoughts, your prayers and your commitment to helping the man behind the mic.
